The
Deadline for Proposal Submission has been extended to May 20, 2008
The
program committee for the 40th Annual Meeting of the American Society
for Neurochemistry invites submissions for symposia, colloquia, and
workshops. The meeting will be held at the Charleston
Riverview Marriott Hotel, located in Charleston on the
Ashley River and just a mile from the historic district, from March
7-11, 2009.
Submissions
Submissions for sessions will be reviewed by members of the Program Committee
using an NIH-style scoring system. As in the past, all sessions will be scheduled
for 2 hours including time for questions. The program committee encourages proposals
from younger investigators, and recommends that senior investigators consider
having a junior investigator as a co-organizer. Both ASN members and non-members
are invited to submit proposals.
Symposia
Symposia consist of 4 speakers presenting highlights of their research, and
a brief overview of the topic for audience members not working in that field.
Talks should encompass a common theme, and sessions presenting contrasting points
of view or alternative approaches is a strength.
Colloquia
Colloquia consist of 4 to 5 speakers who have 20 minutes to present a focused
description of recent studies and developments. As the audience for colloquia
may be more familiar with the topic, the need for introductory statements is
minimal.
Workshops
The format of a Workshop is flexible, and can consist of up to 6 speakers presenting
succinct descriptions of a specific problem, technique, or approach. Workshops
should be considered as platforms to provide practical knowledge.
Submissions for Sessions
Should Include:
The Chairperson (and
when appropriate co-chair) name, title, affiliation, address, email and
phone number.
The title and type of
session being proposed.
Description (up to
250 words) including a brief scientific background, the current state of
the topic, and why the session would be of high interest to Neuroscientists.
If the topic has been covered at a recent ASN meeting (please visit www.ASNeurochem.org
for this year’s program) a rationale for revisiting the topic.
A list of speakers,
their tentative talk titles, a list of 2 or 3 recent publications, and whether
they have agreed to participate. Please note that the organizer of a session
is not required to present.
