Jordi Folch-Pi Memorial Award for 2006
Dr. Tammy Kielian

Dr. Tammy Kielian is the recipient of the 2006 Jordi Folch-Pi Award. Dr. Kielian’s research centers on immune responses in the CNS. Her lab has investigated the roles of microglia and astrocytes in CNS infectious disease; functions of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in bacterial recognition by glia; interface between TLRs and adaptive immunity in CNS bacterial infections; and effects of inflammation on gap junction communication in glial cells. Dr. Kielian received her PhD in Microbiology, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. She then performed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Bill Hickey at Dartmouth, and is currently an Associate Professor of Neurobiology & Developmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas.
