Dr. Christopher Taylor was the winner of the 2005 Marian Kies Award.  Dr. Taylor’s thesis focused on the physiologically active, highly polarized myelin membrane.  The primary goal of his research was to establish a comprehensive two-dimensional proteomic map of myelin proteins and in doing so determine the molecular composition of myelin.  This wealth of knowledge provides a point-of-departure for many future studies.  Furthermore, establishing the proteomic map enables comparative proteomics to be applied to numerous biological scenarios, such as knockout mice and disease models.  Another focus of Dr. Taylor’s thesis research was to analyze the protein composition of myelin glycosphingolipid microdomains or signaling “rafts”.  Dr. Taylor received a B.S. in Biology from Syracuse University, NY.  He obtained his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Connecticut working with his advisor Dr. Steve Pfeiffer (pictured above).  Dr. Taylor is currently performing a post-doctoral fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School with glial biologist Dr. Charles Stiles and his work is supported by a fellowship from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
