Position title: Assistant Professor-Fixed Term – Imaging Specialist

Summary of position
The Gulbransen and Jackson labs use advanced cellular imaging and genetic approaches to study interactions between neurons and non-neuronal cells in the periphery. Major techniques used in these studies include network- and cellular-level calcium imaging with GCaMPs, selective cell stimulation using chemogenetics, cell labeling assays, fluorescent reporter systems, RNA sequencing, and physiological assays of function.

The successful candidates will be expected to conduct experiments aimed at understanding the neurohumoral regulation of perivascular adipose tissue, collect and analyze data from these experiments, and report the results of these studies at scientific meetings and in publications (70% effort). The successful candidate will also be expected to oversee the daily operations of a microscopy core facility which houses a Zeiss LSM 880 NL microscope with Airyscan detectors, train users in the use of this microscope; train and assist with image analysis; and help facilitate collaborative research effort using this system (30% effort). There will also be opportunities to participate in professional development programs and to write and submit grants and career development awards.

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Physiology, Pharmacology, Physics, Immunology, or a related field. Candidates must also have at minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral training in live cell imaging using confocal, 2- or multiphoton imaging, or similar methods. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in image analysis and processing and should have a track record of research in, or complementary to vascular physiology or pharmacology, neurobiology, immunology or related fields. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and to be willing to work with a diverse group of investigators.

This position is a 12-month fixed term appointment with opportunity for renewal based on performance and funding.
